On the afternoon of February 2, 2017, Dr. Walter L. Geyer II passed away in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Geyer, also known to many nieces and nephew as Uncle Walter, was 83 years old. Dr. Geyer was preceded in death by his Father Walter L. Geyer Senior, Mother Anna Heinisch Geyer, Sister Anna Marie Geyer McMahon, and Sister Margaret Geyer Hoffman. Dr. Geyer is survived by Wife Elizabeth Bailey Geyer, Brother-in-Law Edwin A. Bailey II, Nieces; Susan Louise Hall, Nancy Carolyn Shanahan, Marilyn Anne Chappell, Barbara Jean Johnson, Brittany Bailey Renner, and Nephew Edwin A. Bailey III.

A proud San Antonian, Dr. Geyer was born November 20, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas of German Decent. After High School, In 1955 Dr. Geyer went on to graduate The United States Navy School of Music in Washington D.C. with the status of U.S. navy Musician First Class E-6. He then achieved a Bachelor of Music Degree at The University of Texas at Austin in 1961, a Master of Music Degree at the University of Michigan in 1966, and finally a Doctor of Education Degree in 1982 with Dissertation, Developing an Instrumental Music Program to Increase Aesthetic Perception. He was a Fraternal member of Phi Mu Alpha (music), Kappa Kappa Psi (band), Phi Delta Kappa (education), Phi Sigma Kappa (social), an honorary member of Sigma Alpha Iota, the Honorary Music Fraternity of which wife Elizabeth and niece Marilyn belong to, and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Hella Temple Shrine.

Dr. Geyer was an accomplished, talented, and passionate musician who chose to teach and pass on his love for music. He taught at many schools as a beloved music teacher and band director to his students. Probably with his most memorable positions being Assistant Band Director and Instructor at The University of Texas at El Paso, 1967-1973 and later a part of Dallas I.S.D. school system. He was awarded with the Blanton Elementary School PTA Yearbook Dedication Award, 1992-1993 and Runyon Special Teaching Award for dedicated Service, 1994-1995.

Not only did he share the love of music with his students but with his nieces and nephew as well. Although Dr. and Mrs. Geyer did not have children, Uncle Walter was very fond of his nieces and nephew and treated them as his own children loving them the same. He will be severely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Service will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 1:45 PM at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. Stephen Antwain Green, 33 of Fort Smith, AR passed January 28, 2017. He was the son of Donna M. Green Mooney and Willie Mooney, Jr. both of Pine Bluff.

He leaves to cherish his memories to: His Parents; two brothers, Kelvin Green of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Willie Mooney, III of Conway, AR; one sister Cynthia Richmond of Fresno, CA; Grandmother, Thelma Mooney of Pine Bluff, AR.

His Funeral Service will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Full Counsel Church by Pastor S. Vincent Johnson. Interment will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

His body will lie in-state Saturday, 1:45p.m., until service.

Visitation will be 4-6:30 p.m., Friday, at Brown Funeral Home.

On January 19, 2017, HENRY ROBERT GUTIERREZ passed from this earth to his heavenly reward. Arrangements are under the direction of Tres Hewell Funeral Home.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 27, 2017.

A Memorial Rosary will be held at St. JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH at 9:30 A.M.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.; interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Seguin, where Henry will be laid to rest in the Gutierrez family plot.
A Mourner’s Reception will follow at the St. James Catholic Church FAMILY CENTER, immediately after the reception.

Henry attended elementary and middle school at St. Joseph’s School in Seguin. He was a graduate of Seguin High School and very proud of his three years in the MATADOR MARCHING BAND. He subsequently graduated from TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY with a BS degree in Political Science where he was a member of the Honorary Band Fraternity, KAPPA KAPPA PSI.

After graduation from TLU, Henry worked as a Manager at Walgreen’s in Seguin, New Braunfels and Austin, until he accepted employment with the Community Supervision and Corrections Department in the Comal County PROBATION OFFICE. He worked as a probation officer for 20 years before retirement. Henry was proud for the opportunity to work in law enforcement and had great regard and appreciation for the entire Law Enforcement Community.

Henry inherited an intense love of sports from his Mother. As a band member he was a huge supporter of the Seguin Matadors and the TLU Bulldogs. He rejoiced and/or cried with the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs during their victories and defeats. He was devoted to his pets and each dog he owned was treated “royally” and completely spoiled; or as Henry used to say “My dogs aren’t spoiled, I’m just well trained.” Life without a dog was never an option for Henry.

In addition to his work and community activities, Henry was a devout Catholic. He was involved with his parish community at St. James Catholic Church for more than 56 years, since his school days at St. Joseph’s, and where he was a member of the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS of Council 3412 and a 4th degree Knight in assembly 2055.

Henry was preceded in Death by his loving parents, Henry & Guadalupe Gutierrez. He is survived in life by his sister, Dahlia Marie Gutierrez and his brother-in-law, Prof. George E. Dix of Austin, TX., as well as one aunt and countless cousins.

Grady Lamar Hallman, MD, born October 25, 1930 to Mr. and Mrs. Grady L. Hallman, went to be with Jesus on the morning of January 13, 2017, in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Hallman was a native Texan who received his B.A. degree with honors from the University of Texas in Austin. He received his M.D. degree with honors from Baylor College of Medicine in 1954 and was named Distinguished Alumnus in 2003. He served in the Medical Corps, United States Army from 1956 to 1958.

Between 1962 and 1969 Dr. Hallman was a member of the Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine engaged in the clinical practice of surgery, teaching, and research. After that time, he served at the Texas Heart Institute of St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, Texas, and as clinical Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and at the University of Texas Medical School, both in Houston. Dr. Hallman was the author of 309 publications including a textbook on “Surgical Treatment of Congenital Heart Disease” now in its third edition. He performed the first successful coronary graft operation in 1962. He was a member of numerous medical and professional organizations and had been a consultant in heart surgery for the United States Army at Brooke Army Hospital, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Dr. Hallman was also an avid musician. While at the University of Texas, Dr. Hallman played trombone in the Longhorn Band and was elected to Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity. He played euphonium in the UT Symphonic Band and received the Outstanding Band Member Award. He was also elected to membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Scholastic Society. Dr. Hallman was elected to the Longhorn Band Hall of Honor in 1998.

Between 1993 and 1999 Doctor Hallman toured each summer with the American Winds Concert Band and played solos in England, Scotland, Wales, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Italy, and Greece. Of special interest were his solo appearances with the Dallas Wind Symphony in Myerson Symphony Center, The Texas Wind Symphony in the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, and the Doctors Orchestra of Houston in the Hobby Center.

While at the Texas Heart Institute, Dr. Hallman founded and directed “The Heartbeats,” an all-Doctor band, which became very successful in performance and notoriety.

Dr. Hallman was a member of the Board of Advisors of the Houston Symphony and was a Chair Sponsor. For forty years he sponsored a brass ensemble concert as part of the Houston Friends of Music concert series at Rice University. Dr. Hallman was a member of the Board of Governors of the Shepherd (School of Music) Society at Rice University, and Chairman of the Executive Board of Summit Brass.

Dr. Hallman is survived by his three sons, Daniel Hallman, David Hallman and his wife, Kimmy, Charles Hallman, MD, and his wife, Martha; grandchildren, Joshua and his wife Heather Hallman, Joy Hallman, Jacob Hallman, Kathryn and husband Cole Wallace, Johnny Gentle, Carley Hallman, Kyle Hallman; great-granddaughter, Olivia Wallace; sister, Martha Feely and her children Jan Kennedy, Lynn Cayton, Brian Feely, Timothy Feely, and Dan Feely; and brother-in-law Dr. Herman Suit and his wife, Joan.
