Harry passed away peacefully October 17, 2015 at his home in Alachua, FL with his wife Linda by his side.
Harry was born November 6, 1951 in Groningen, Netherlands son of Abraham Dontje and Akke Von Der Schoot. He immigrated to the Unites States in 1958 with his parents and sister Marion.
He attended the University of Connecticut majoring in Music education. He received his Registered Nursing degree from Mohegan College in Norwich CT.
Harry worked at Mansfield Training School, in Mansfield CT as a tech while he was attending college. This is where he met his wife Linda Houle. They were married for 36 years in July. Harry was also employed and volunteered as a firefighter in Mansfield, CT. As a RN Harry worked at the U Conn Student Health Service in Storrs, CT. Harry and Linda moved in Gainesville FL twenty-five years ago. He was employed at UF, Student Health Care Center, and twenty years at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Harry retired from Vascular and Interventional Physicians in Gainesville.
Harry was an avid reader, loved music of all kinds but mostly classical. He was a licensed pilot. For many years Harry and Linda traveled to Holland to visit Harry’s family with side trips to York, England. Harry loved to make people laugh and had a joke for all occasions.
Harry will be greatly missed by all his family, in-laws and extended families. He loved all his nieces, nephews and their children, all his friends that attended ‘Girl’s Night Out,’ Shands Rehab Hospital, V.I.P. and the Angels of Mercy. Two very special friends that made this passing bearable neighbors Susan Dann and Lynn Dann.
Funeral service will be held at St. Madeleine Church, 17155 NW US HWY 441, High Springs, FL 32643, November 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd. Gainesville 32606 or St. Madeleine Catholic Church and Santa Fe Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche.
